Antique Gorham Mixed Metal Pepper Shaker.Description
A very rare Gorham mixed metal pepper shaker, dating to circa 1881.
Realistically modelled in the form of a pomegranate.
With patinated copper body and silver leaves / stopper.
An example of this shaker is on display at the Brooklyn Museum, NYC.
The museum description includes the following:
The vegetable-shaped salt and pepper shakers and
the curvilinear flask are splendid examples of the
Aesthetic Movement style, which appeared strikingly
new and
modern to consumers at the time.
The form of the
shakers
was inspired by realistic
Japanese metal objects with
which
Americans were
just becoming familiar.
Body stamped with Gorham's anchor mark, GORHAM CO., 1840, N
The stem further stamped with the number 23.
Showing beautiful patina throughout, this is a rare and stunning piece.
