OLD NAVAJO SAND CAST STERLING SILVER CONCHO / CONCHA BELT - UNUSUAL DESIGN
There aren't many as nice and unique as this. Very old sand cast conchos / conchas with great patina that has been left uncleaned and untouched. All together, the silver weighs 246.81 grams. What makes this piece unusual is that it is made entirely from sterling silver, without a leather belt but instead uses only connected conchos / conchas. Each concho / concha measures approximately 2.5” inches lengthwise by 1.5” inches from top to bottom. The total length of belt is 33” inches. There are no markings, as is typical of vintage Southwest Native American Indian silver work that could possibly predate 1940.
This belt was in the same family for 4 generations and the Grandmother that it originally belonged to had an antique store in Santa Fe, New Mexico called the “Thieve’s Market” ca. 1969-1972.
