The ADuM1401 is a four-channel digital isolator with 3/1 channel directivity, using iCoupler® technology from Analog Devices. These isolation devices integrate high-speed CMOS and single-chip air-core transformer technology, and have outstanding performance characteristics that are superior to alternative devices such as optocouplers.
iCoupler devices do not use LEDs and photodiodes, so there are no design difficulties generally associated with optocouplers. The simple iCoupler digital interface and stable performance characteristics can eliminate the uncertain current transfer ratio, non-linear transfer function, temperature and service life effects of optocouplers.
These iCoupler products do not require external drives and other discrete components. In addition, when the signal data rate is comparable, the power consumption of the iCoupler device is only 1/10 to 1/6 of the optocoupler.
The ADuM140x series of isolators provide four independent isolation channels, supporting multiple channel configurations and data rates (please refer to the "Ordering Guide" section of the data sheet). All models can work with a power supply voltage of 2.7 V to 5.5 V, are compatible with low-voltage systems, and can achieve voltage conversion across the isolation barrier. In addition, ADuM140x has low pulse width distortion (CRW level less than 2 ns) and strict inter-channel matching (CRW level less than 2 ns) characteristics. Unlike other optocouplers, the ADuM140x isolator has a patented refresh feature, which ensures that there is no input logic conversion and DC correctness under the condition of lack of a power supply.
